Statesville City Council
The City Council is made up of the Mayor, six (6) ward seats, and two (2) at-large seats. Meetings are held on the first and third Mondays of each month at 6:00 PM in the Council Chambers of City Hall, 227 S. Center Street. The agenda is released the Wednesday before each meeting by the City Clerk. On the second meeting of each month, thirty minutes are set aside for the public to address Council.

Leah Gaines-Messick
Leah Gaines-Messick serves as the City Attorney for the City of Statesville. She is the legal adviser for all officials, officers, and departments of the City and represents the City in litigation and proceedings, including the prosecution of cases. Her work involves drafting and reviewing ordinances, resolutions, policies, procedures, and contracts prior to consideration by the City Council to ensure compliance with state, federal, and local laws.

Public Hearing Procedures
Rules of Procedure and Decorum allow a fair opportunity for persons to comment. Adopted pursuant to NCGS § 160A-81 for all legislative public hearings conducted by Council or its authorized boards and commissions.
Public Comment Procedures
Council sets aside time for residents to offer comments and suggestions for the efficient and effective administration of city government. NCGS § 160A-81.1 allows reasonable rules to maintain order and decorum.
